As much as we hate to admit it, for many singles Valentine’s Day can be a bit… well, tortuous. With so many couples celebrating their love, showering each other with gifts, and taking up all the good restaurant reservations it can be more than a tad annoying. But thanks to a new Zoosk study, there’s good news for everyone who’s single on Valentine’s Day—it’s actually a great time to go for it with someone new.

Zoosk surveyed 6,600 of its members and found out that 75% of singles would say yes to going out on a first date on Valentine’s Day. So if you’ve been waiting to ask out a special someone you have your eye on, now could be the perfect time.

Here are some other findings that may surprise you…

-71% of both men and women believe that Valentine’s Day still matters.

-Nearly 1 in 4 singles think it’s OK to ask someone to be your Valentine’s Day date after meeting online.

-About 40% of singles believe a candlelit dinner is the best way to celebrate Valentine’s Day, while just a little less (39%) prefer brunch or coffee. Home-cooked meals are definitely not preferred, only 8% feel this is the best way to celebrate.

-43% of women believe men should make the holiday plans, while 66% of men feel it should be a collaborative effort.

Another interesting find was that online dating activity actually stalls a bit during Valentine’s Day and actions such as messaging, viewing members profiles, and liking or winking at someone doesn’t go back up until the holiday is over. And new signups and subscriptions work the same way, with the exception that woman signup slightly more than men.

So what can all these stats teach us about this centuries old holiday? That Valentine’s Day is very much alive and well. And for singles, it may be more important than ever. If you’re someone who likes to take advantage of a good opportunity, or maybe just a little bit of a romantic, there’s no better time than February 14 to take a chance on someone and something new.
