It’s no secret that the number of older women dating younger men is becoming more prominent. In fact, a survey by AARP shows that 35 percent of single midlife and older women are dating younger.

“As women age, the man pool shrinks significantly, so dating younger only makes sense,” says psychologist, Dr. Belisa Vranich. “Women start breaking the rules with what they should like when they see that the right height, age, and income don’t necessarily mean anything.”

Just like there are men who prefer to date younger women, many older women enjoy the company of a younger man for many reasons.

“Younger men tend to be more open minded about having new experiences and are less set in their ways,” says Tantra and sex expert, Psalm Isadora, who also says the same of men who opt to date younger women. “For women, a younger man also brings less baggage and a less demanding schedule, so he has more free time to attend to the needs of an older and established woman.”

Whether a guy is 5, 10, or 15 years her junior, women who prefer to go the route of dating a younger man also find that he tends to be more active and not set in his ways.

“His sense of adventure can be very appealing to women looking to have fun and lead an active life,” says life coach and author of Dating the Younger Man, Cyndi Targosz. “Older women feel totally worshiped and desired in these relationships,” she adds.

That’s because a younger guy appreciates a woman’s maturity. Isadora says that many younger men who date older women say that they are tired of the emotional games younger women play. Additionally, older men simply cannot keep up sexually with younger, virile, and agile younger men.

“Younger men tend to take more pride in their stamina and athleticism in the bedroom and are more likely to wait until the older woman has been fully pleasured before they allow themselves to climax,” says Isadora.

But, it’s not just about sex when you’re dating a younger man. Many guys admit that confidence is one of the sexiest qualities in a woman. And older women are generally at a point in their life when they’re established and don’t depend on a man for their daily plans and self-fulfillment.

“Some younger men say that older women get less upset about the little things that girls their own age obsess over,” says Vranich.

For women who decide to date a younger man, it’s important to keep in mind that sometimes a large age-gap can be an issue later on down the relationship road. For one, older men tend to be more financial stable with more money and life experience.

“This can create a power dynamic imbalance,” says Isadora. “It can get confusing who picks up the check at dinner. When it comes to emotional maturity, younger men have not learned to control their passions or tempers as well as older men which can lead to jealousy and possessiveness,” she adds.
